Activity of the Volcano
I visited the regency of Lumajang to the south of Mt. Semeru with the intention of photographing Semeru from the South. During the visit I obsverved many small-medium strong ash-eruptions from Semeru. The eruptions came in frequencies of 1-2 per hour. Prior to erupting, I observed that the growing “lava-dome” present in the crater, seemed to be trembling, as rocks often started sliding down the flank of the lava-dome, just prior to the volcano erupting. (see video below). The “lava dome” itself seem to have grown in the recent years, as you can see compared to the photos I took in August 2014
