Activity of the Volcano:
Observed Merapi from a distance of 6 km SW of the volcano, for a total of 5 hours during 30th April. Weather conditions: Foggy conditions and the summit was only visible for a brief window in the afternoon.
According to Indonesian Authorities BPPTKG, as of the 04th January 2025, the 2021 lava dome on the SW flank of Merapi has a volume of 3.505.900m3 (up from 2.663.000 m3 as of January 2024, and the lava dome in the central part of the crater of Merapi has a volume of 2.360.700m3 (up from 2.358.400 m3 January 2024).
5 km restriction zone is currently in place for Merapi volcano, according to Indonesian Authorities BPPTKG, The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Geological Agency. The volcano is as of today 23th April 2025 still on alert level III.
