Merapi volcano – 17th August 2020

Activity of the Volcano:

Observed Merapi from a distance of 5km to the South of the volcano, for around 4 hours on the 17th August. Steady gas emissions were observed from the crater area. Indonesian Authorities reported the plume to reach 50m above the summit this morning 17th August.

A 3km restriction zone is currently in place for Merapi volcano, according to Indonesian Authorities BPPTKG, The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Geological Agency. The volcano is as of today 17th August 2020 on Level II.

Today 17th August is also the 75th Independence day of Indonesia – Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan Indonesia!

Indonesian flag raised on the flank of Merapi – as the 17th August 2020 was the 75th Independence day of Indonesia! Selamat!
