Activity of the Volcano:

Observed Merapi from a distance of 5 km SW of the volcano, for a total of +4 hour during 04th April. Weather conditions: Mostly clear.

The frequency of rockfall events from the 2021 SW lava dome was lower than my last trip in February 2022. Most of the observed rockfall still originate from the lowest part of the SW lava dome. A white plume was also seen originating from the summit crater, drifting West.

5 km restriction zone is currently in place for Merapi volcano, according to Indonesian Authorities BPPTKG, The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Geological Agency. The volcano is as of today 05th April 2022 still on alert level III.
